Jim previously served as mayor of San Marcos from 2006-2014. For two years prior to mayor, Desmond served as a San Marcos City Council member.
In addition to his Supervisor duties, Jim is the chair of the SANDAG Regional Transportation Committee. Supervisor Desmond also serves as a Board Member of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority.
Supervisor Desmond is a US Navy Veteran. He earned a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering from San Diego State University. He completed the Leadership North County program at California State University San Marcos. In the 1990s he founded, managed and sold Technical Standards, Inc. a technical writing and document company. Desmond also served as a San Marcos Chamber of Commerce Board Member.
A resident of San Marcos since 1992, Desmond was active in the community serving as the first parent teacher president of Twin Oaks Elementary School. Desmond remains involved and is a member of the San Marcos Kiwanis Club and serves as a board member of the San Diego and Imperial County Boy Scouts of America. Supervisor Desmond and his wife Kerri of 32 years reside in North County.

It is a privilege to serve the nearly half million citizens living and working within the 75th Assembly District, one of the state’s most beautiful and diverse regions. The district’s rural areas include numerous farms, ranches, wineries, Indian reservations and the vibrant communities of Fallbrook, Bonsall, Pauma Valley and Valley Center. The district also includes the growing cities of Temecula, Escondido and San Marcos.
As you are aware, much is at stake in California. As your representative, I have a unique opportunity to address the important issues facing our state. Taxes, jobs, education, public safety, healthcare, regulatory reform and water policy are all heavily impacted by decisions made in Sacramento. As always, I look forward to hearing from you about the important issues facing our state and region.

Brian W. Jones was elected in 2018 to serve the people of California’s 38th Senate district. He is Chair of the Senate Republican Caucus. Prior to serving in the Senate, Jones was a Santee City Council Member for eight years from 2001 to 2010 then again from 2017 to 2018. Jones was the representative for the 71st Assembly District from 2010 to 2016.
Jones grew up in the district and attended Santee Elementary, Cajon Park Middle School, and Santana High School. He continued his education at Grossmont College before earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration at San Diego State University.
